Anatomy of a Tango Orchestra with Rodolfo Roballos

What defines a tango orchestra? What are the stylistic differences between the major tango orchestras? What does it take to become a tango musician? How do musicians relate to the dancers and translate the energy of tango so that we can dance it?

These questions will be the fertilizer for our online seminar with Rodolfo Roballos - the director of La Academia Tango Club in Buenos Aires.

Themes we will cover:

  • Rhythmic base (marcatos, syncopations, tenutos, etc.)

  • Melodic and rhythmic phrasing.

  • Styles (D’Arienzo, Pugliese, Troilo and Di Sarli)

  • Live musicians + audio and video recordings of the orchestras of the ‘40s.

  • How do you learn to play tango? Is it still possible to start as an adult

without knowing how to play any instruments?

  • How were the musicians trained in the Golden Age of tango (1940/1950) and

    how they learn today.

  • What is the role of La Academia Tango club in Tango music today?

  • Q&A round.

As the head of La Academia, Rodolfo has one ambition in mind - to bring about another Golden Age of tango music by catalyzing interest in tango and training musicians around the world. His vision is to have an active tango orchestra in every major city around the world.

Join us for this riveting and lively discussion on Saturday, August 6, 12-1:30pm.

Cost:

$35 before July 30

$40 after July 30

*Recording of the seminar will be available to all the participants
