Top 10 non-Amazon gifts for your tango friends

Few things throughout the year cause me as much stress as gift buying at Christmas time…maybe taxes come close. I am the person who would rather not buy ANY gifts rather than get something generic/uninteresting.

So throughout the year I collect business cards and save links on my social to various possible gifts that are beautiful AND come from small businesses run by regular creative people like myself.

Most of the items below are made by artists and artisans I met at our neighborhood flea market here in LA.

Herbal Infused Roll on Body Oil

by Earthly Essentials by Ciara

I love having this in my purse so I can use it at the milonga when I want to freshen up. The scent is very natural mild and doesn’t irritate my dance partners. Great as a stocking stuffer or on its own.

Handmade Earrings

by Rhombus

To tell you the truth I have been eyeing these earrings for myself for MONTHS! Ever since I met the artist who makes them at our neighborhood flee market. If you have a friend who is into earrings (ahem, you know at least one…), they will LOVE these.

Harem Jumper

by Blonde Peacock

I want this jumper in every color. It feels soooo good to have all that space to move around in! You can totally dance in it at an afternoon milonga. And if you wanted to dress it up you can just throw a belt on, but these days I’m like “why bother?!”

Reclaimed Wood Vase

by Golden State Workshop

I don’t know about you but I have always loved objects made from recycled wood. Every one is like it’s work of art, never to be repeated. I love seeing the little imperfections.

Moonglow Evening Serum

by Owl

I first experienced this serum in a yoga class when the teacher went around and gently massaged it on our neck and shoulders during shavasana. I loved the scent so much I immediately had to have my own bottle.

Ikebana Vase

by Georgetown Pottery

I originally saw this on TikTok and immediately wanted to gift this to someone. We ended up giving it to my mother-in-law who loves to display roses from her garden in it.

The Head Hammock

by Azure

I’m sure you have at least one of those tango friends whom you can find curled up in the corner at 3am getting a cat nap before getting out on the dance floor. I love the idea of having this on hand for an impromptu nap in the middle of the festival when you’re passing out but don’t want to leave… yet.

Weird and Magical Art Prints

by Danielle Arden O’Malley

These for SURE will be a great conversation starter! They are so quirky and strange, but also have a lot of humor and I always enjoy just standing and looking at these. Each time noticing a different detail, or get a new idea about something.

Handmade Ceramic Cup

by Satori Clayworks

There is nothing like the feel of a handmade clay cup in your hands. I dream of a day when I can replace all of my tableware to handmade ceramics. This is a great gift for those tango coffee/tea lovers.

Recycled Plastic Plant Stake

by Sacateur Me Baby

For those plant loving friends of yours, this is both super functional AND super artsy. I love all the different colors and variations they carry so you can make your own sculptural plant forest.
